  6. Hello and welcome to AT&T I M Here Service (sm) Powered by PowWow(r), the leading instant messaging and interactive communications!

  9. NOTE TO WINDOWS 98 SECOND EDITION USERS:
  10.  
  11. If you are using Internet Connection Sharing (ICS), you must first
  12. disable it before running AT&T I M Here Service software (v3.9)
  13. AT&T I M Here Service works by mapping your PowWow (e-mail) address to the unique IP address of your network interface. With these two pieces of information, other users of AT&T I M Here Service, and others, can make connections to contact you, transmit instant messages, and so forth.

  15. Technologies such as Windows 98 Second Edition's Internet Connection
  16. Sharing work by allowing several computers to share the same network
  17. connection and IP address by proxy.
  18.  
  19. When you use a proxying service such as ICS, your computers no longer
  20. have an unique IP address assigned to their network connections.  As a
  21. consequence, AT&T I M Here Service, will be unable to correctly make connections.

  24. NOTE TO WINDOWS 95 AND WINDOWS NT 4.0 (PRE-SERVICE PACK 4) USERS:

  26. AT&T I M Here Service uses the 32-bit Common Controls library to create many of the dialog boxes and windows you see. If you have an older version of the COMCTL32.DLL file PowWow may not be able to draw these
  27. correctly and will cause a General Protection Fault as a result.

  29. In order to use AT&T I M Here Service, you must have Version 4.70 or later of the COMCTL32.DLL file. Version 4.70 of the COMCTL32.DLL file is dated August 8, 1996, 8:30PM with a size of 310,544 bytes.

  31. For Windows 95 users, if you have an older version, you need to install
  32. the latest version of the COMCTL32.DLL file. It is available for download from Microsoft's FTP site at:

  36. After you have downloaded the file, run it by double-clicking on the
  37. COMCTL32.EXE file. If you are unsure of where the file is on your
  38. computer, use the Find Files applet from the Start Menu to locate it.

  41. For Windows NT user, you can download the latest Service Pack from
  42. Microsoft's FTP site at:

  44.   ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/bussys/winnt/winnt-public/fixes/

  46. Go to the appropriate subdirectory for your country, for example, "usa" for the United States, and follow the path to the Service Pack
  47. subdirectory.  You may wish to install any Hot Fixes available, as
  48. well.

  50. Be sure to reboot your computer after installing any fixes for the
  51. changes to take effect.
